In response to an inquiry from ATL, Phillip Bayt, the firm’s Chief Managing Partner, stated:
The allegations reported in the press concerning the behavior of our associate, Courtney King, if proven true, are inconsistent with the high standards of behavior and decorum we require from all of our professionals at Ice Miller LLP. Ms. King is addressing the allegations through the legal process and we are monitoring that closely. Internally, we are reviewing her alleged conduct and counseling her on our expectations regarding the behavior of our professionals. We ask that the legal process be allowed to take its course and that Ms. King be afforded her privacy as she works through this matter.
Score one for Biglaw, because Bayt did a beautiful waltz around that issue. The upshot, though, seems to be that (1) the firm might dismiss King if she’s found guilty of the allegations, and (2) in the meantime, please respect Courtney King’s privacy. King’s lawyer, Alex Dathorne, also asked for privacy on behalf of his client: “At this point Ms. King does not wish to comment on this most unfortunate sequence of events.” Most unfortunate, indeed.
Dathorne did reveal, however, that he believed King “continues to be employed” at Ice Miller. We asked if his client might be planning a civil suit (like a § 1983 action) against the police; Dathorne responded that King “does not have any plans for a civil suit at this time.” She is next scheduled to appear in court on February 7.
And now, here’s a question that everyone has been talking about. When Courtney King’s story first came to light, we called her “rather attractive” — a statement that caused much kerfuffle. Some claimed she was hotter in her mug shot; others argued in favor of her law firm head shot.
It’s time for a reader poll:
Is Courtney King hotter in her law firm head shot or her mug shot?
- The mug shot. (57%, 714 Votes)
- The law firm head shot. (43%, 530 Votes)
Total Voters: 1,244
