There is sad news this weekend from Boston. A law student at Suffolk University Law School apparently committed suicide on Friday.

The Boston Globe has a report on Sellers’s death (subscription required).
I think McCarthy strikes the right tone in his message to students:
Police are investigating whether this death may have been a suicide. Earlier this year another student took his own life on campus. Suicide is a complex public health issue that strikes people of all ages. As we mourn Willie’s death and contemplate these tragedies, it is important to remember the value of offering support if we see signs of stress in friends or colleagues. This may take the form of simple listening, or it may mean reaching out to connect someone in need with an appropriate member of the staff or administration.

It’s worth reminding people to look out for their friends in the difficult pressure cooker of law school — maybe especially over the summer when people can get isolated in their own silos of depression.
Our condolences go out to the family and friends of Sellers.
