The Washington Business Journal describes Justice Sotomayor’s new condo as a two-bedroom apartment. The Washington Post reports that it’s a one bedroom with a den. My guess is that this room is called a den by some because it’s not huge and it has no windows (to the outside):

And a washing machine and dryer in the unit — a former Manhattanite’s dream. It’s too bad black robes aren’t machine washable!
