Sexy First Amendment Freedom Fighter Accused of Hosting an Underage Booze-a-Palooza

Remember Sydney Spies, the teenage dream from Colorado who fought valiantly to get her provocative pictures featured in her high school yearbook, all in the name of free expression? Despite the threat of a lawsuit and national media coverage, all of Spies’s racy photos were rejected — but she was able to earn a spot in Americans’ hearts (and spankbanks) around the country.

The young Hollywood hopeful landed a small role in an upcoming SyFy movie, and her mother, Denise “Miki” Spies, was preparing to ship her daughter out to Los Angeles in the hopes of her making it big. Why not throw one last bash to celebrate Sydney’s single success in stardom? And that’s apparently where all the trouble began for this mother and daughter duo.

Little did Sydney and Miki know that their alleged exploits at the party would someday be able to serve as the basis for a Lifetime movie. The pair could face jail time for allegedly serving alcohol to minors — but at least they’re back in the headlines. (And this underage drinking drama could earn Sydney another line on her iMDB profile, so she’s probably patting herself on the back.)

Let’s discuss the charges that the Spies are currently facing, and all of the allegations that make them appear to be quite the hot messes….

The Durango Herald reports that both of the Spies women were arrested in relation to Sydney’s epic going-away party, after police observed “numerous” underage partygoers boozing in the backyard of the Spies home. According to the police, all of the following were present at the scene: “a keg of beer, bottles of liquor and numerous red plastic cups filled with alcoholic beverages.” Miki, who claimed to have good parenting skills when Sydney’s slutty pictorial parade first hit the news, clearly doesn’t know about social host liability.

Sydney Spies, who is now 18 years old (she’s legal, woohoo!), was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of obstructing a police officer. Miki Spies was arrested on one felony charge — contributing to the delinquency of a minor — and obstructing a police officer and resisting arrest, two misdemeanor charges. Sydney was released from jail on $500 bail, while her mother was released on $10,000 bail.

We’ve got to hand it to Sydney, because she still looks great, even in her mug shot photo — check out her pouty lips and “woe is me” expression. Her mother, on the other hand, looks like she had one red Solo cup too many, and the allegations made in the police report as to her behavior seem to reflect just that.

But before we get to Miki, let’s talk about Sydney, whose alleged antics make her seem like a budding Lindsay Lohan at the onset of her criminal career. From the Herald:

Sydney Spies attempted to block a police officer from entering the house, [Sgt. Geary] Parsons said.

She also pulled and tugged against officers when they tried to place her in handcuffs, he said. She refused to walk on her own to a police car, where she was placed in the back seat. She later unbuckled the seatbelt and attempted to jump out, Parsons said.

“She nearly kicked me in the groin,” officer [Darrell] Robertson wrote in his report.

Oh, Sydney. With a name like yours, maybe we were right about your future career in porn. It’s not acceptable to act like this before your career actually gets off the ground.

You can’t really blame Sydney, though, because it looks like she may have learned from the best. After refusing to identify herself, Miki attempted to bolt, according to police:

Police attempted to detain [Miki Spies] for questioning, but she “broke into a full sprint for her front door,” according to an incident report.

Police chased her into the house and into her bedroom, where she attempted to slam the door on police. She was arrested after a brief struggle, Parsons said.

This wasn’t Miki’s first brush with the law. In June, she was arrested for trespassing at a local park and being loud in the wee hours of the morning. At the time, she accused the police of unfairly targeting her because of her sexual orientation (she’s a lesbian), and she told the arresting officer that he “sucked” at his job. Yes, this from a woman who said that she had good parenting skills. We are shocked, just shocked, that a woman so willing to put her daughter out into the world dressed like an escort would do such a thing.

Sydney Spies is scheduled to appear for a pre-trial conference related to her booze-a-palooza charges at 8:30 a.m. on August 22 in La Plata County Court. Miki Spies will appear for her own pre-trial conference the following week. We certainly wish these ladies the best of luck. On the bright side, Sydney’s journey through the criminal justice system will allow her to practice every actor’s staple trick: crying on command.
