Description: CFPB is seeking a collaborative and analytical Attorney Advisor to serve as an expert and leader in numerous areas of consumer protection law and regulation. This individual will:

  • Lead large, highly complex rulemaking projects and policy proposals, often involving analysis of difficult and controversial issues for which there is little or no precedent.
  • Provide explanations and advice on complex technical matters concerning consumer credit and financial services laws, regulations, and rules.
  • Draft legislation and rules, amendments to regulations, Congressional testimony, official CFPB interpretations, and analyses of proposed legislation, rules and policies.
  • Handle issues that require expertise in one or more areas of federal consumer financial law, including, but not limited to:  the Truth in Lending Act (TILA), Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA), Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA), Electronic Fund Transfer Act (EFTA), and Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA).

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to be engaged in complex legal issues and projects related to the formulation, implementation, and interpretation of laws, regulations, and rules in one or more areas of federal consumer financial law. The incumbent will advise senior management on key issues, coordinate with other divisions, formulate policy recommendations, and recommend alternative courses of action. These recommendations often require an extraordinary level of analysis where issues have few legal or policy precedents, significant impact on the health and stability of the U.S. economy, and/or significant nationwide interest.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential for success in this role. This candidate will possess the exceptional agility and the flexibility required to excel in a fast paced, highly visible multidisciplinary interagency, inter-government environment.  Excellent leadership, collaboration, creativity, analytical, and problem solving skills are required for success in this role.  The CFPB is seeking individuals with a relentless commitment to professional and organizational excellence.
