Meet the Lone 'Lawyer' From Cosmo's Bachelor of the Year Contest

Which gentleman was selected by Cosmo to represent lawyers nationwide in the magazine's Bachelor of the Year contest?

We sometimes get complaints about the way that we supposedly objectify women here at Above the Law. Well, today let’s change things up a bit. Let’s objectify some men! Year after year, Cosmopolitan’s Bachelor of the Year contest is filled with studs from every state in our fine nation.

In 2010, there was some very strong lawyer representation in the contest (two law students and one practicing attorney), but last year, only one lawyer was nominated as a finalist. We were worried that perhaps male lawyers had somehow gotten less attractive.

This year’s edition of the contest again brought only one law school graduate to the table, but our worry about the decline in attractiveness of lawyerly lads has been put to bed, because this hunk looks strong enough to carry the weight of representing his entire profession in this competition on his shoulders.

Quality definitely makes up for quantity this year….

Meet the man chosen to represent Louisiana: Ryan Chenevert, a 2012 graduate of LSU’s Paul M. Hebert Law Center. Chenevert’s abs credentials are quite impressive. Behold this sexy Southern gentleman:

The 25-year-old LSU Law grad was nominated for the contest by a former classmate, and he was absolutely shocked when he heard that he’d be representing his state and going head-to-head against other bachelors from across the country. Ryan’s classmate thinks that he’s “the total package,” but we wanted to chat with him to make sure that he was truly up to snuff — after all, it’s not every day that we get to interview shirtless hotties!

Where are you working right now?

I’m a law clerk for 23rd Judicial District Court of Louisiana, under Judge Ralph Tureau.

Are you worried about finding a job after your clerkship is done?

It’s really stressful knowing that this clerkship will only last for a year, but the economy and the legal job market seems to be picking up in Baton Rouge and the surrounding areas. I’m still hopeful.

Do you think that being a Cosmo contestant will help you in your job search? Are you worried about what the legal community will think?

I don’t think it will have any effect on my job search. I’ve weighed the pros and cons. I only 25 years old — if this is the worst thing I’ve done in my life, then that’s just fine. If I don’t get hired somewhere because of this, I probably wouldn’t want to work for a firm like that anyway.

How does it feel to represent lawyers nationwide in this competition?

I actually didn’t know that I was the only lawyer in the whole bunch. I’m still weirded out that I was even selected. I thought that this would be an interesting ride. I’ve gotten a ton of publicity, but I really do think it’s going to be fun. I hope that I’m able to represent lawyers, Louisiana, and the United States proudly.

Why do you think you should win over the competition?

Well, I’m up against some pretty steep competition. They’ve got professional soccer players and Gold medalists in this contest. Me, I’m just a regular guy with a law degree.

What will you do if you win? How will you spend the prize money?

I’ve already decided that I’m going to give $2,500 of it to charity. I think I’ll just give 25 people $100 to decide which charity they want to donate it to. After that, I’ll let my friends have an open bar tab with me for one night. Then, I’ll contribute the rest to my student loan debt.

Speaking to Ryan on the phone today was a real treat — his Southern accent is definitely swoon-worthy. Best of luck to Ryan as he attempts to take home the title and the sweet $10,000 prize that goes with it!

You can check out complete profiles of all the bachelors, many of whom are pictured in various states of undress, over at the Cosmo website. To vote for Mr. Louisiana (aka Ryan Chenevert), or for one of the other bachelors on the Cosmo site — voting will remain open until October 18 at 6 a.m. EST — click here.

P.S. Louisiana bar exam results come out next week, and we here at Above the Law will be rooting for Ryan!
