You're Back At Work, But Do You Have Heat?

Are you at work with power, but no heat? If so, you are not alone.

CLEARY GOTTLIEB STEEN & HAMILTON — MEMORANDUM — NEW YORK OFFICE

Tomorrow we hope to welcome many of you back to our downtown offices. Through the hard work of many of our colleagues we have to a large degree been able to restore our IT and other office support systems to pre-Sandy levels. While this allows us to open our office, we appreciate that many of our colleagues and their families will be facing storm-related hardships in the days and weeks to come. Transportation in the region has improved dramatically but has not yet been fully restored. Finally, the steam network in New York City which generates heat and hot water is still not operational in Lower Manhattan making One Liberty Plaza and 22 Cortlandt significantly less comfortable than it usually is. Given these circumstances we will be resuming operations at One Liberty Plaza and 22 Cortlandt Street with several modifications to our standard procedures.

We will be serving a buffet breakfast and lunch tomorrow as we continue to assess the availability of neighborhood dining options. We will also be relaxing the dress code until our heat is restored so that those who are able to join us in the office can dress comfortably.

We will be maintaining our temporary locations in New Jersey and Long Island which can serve as a remote location or just a place to use the internet and charge a phone. As a reminder, the addresses of those locations are: [Redacted]

We understand that, given the disparate impact of the storm on the New York area, individual colleagues may still be facing difficult circumstances at home. If there’s anything we can do to help please let us know.
