Is Suspect #2 in the Boston Bombings a Law Student?

A fake Twitter account briefly gave law students a bad name.

Since last night, much has been discovered about the suspects in the Boston Marathon bombings, including their names: Tamerlan Tsarnaev (Suspect #1) and Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev (Suspect #2). While Tamerlan died overnight in a police firefight, Dzhokhar remains at large. On his Vkontakte page, which is essentially the Russian version of Facebook, Dzhokhar notes that his personal priorities are “career and money.”

Now, everyone who hasn’t been following the news about the employment/debt crisis for recent law school grads knows that if those are your aspirations in life, you should head to law school.

So, is Suspect #2 a law student?

(Now with important UPDATES after the jump.)

Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev isn’t a law student, but check out this Twitter account:

It’s not clear why he claims that he’s a law student, nor is it clear why he claims to be studying law at Boston University, especially since he just graduated from high school in 2011.

All we know right now is that given recent events, we’re pretty sure not even Cooley would accept him.

UPDATE (10:55 a.m.): It has now been confirmed that this Twitter account is not actually Dzhokhar’s, but his Vkontakte page appears to be the real deal. Hey, at least we’re not the New York Post.

UPDATE (11:15 a.m.): A representative from Boston University contacted us to note the following: “The suspect is not and never has been a student at Boston University.”

UPDATE (11:45 a.m.): Media sources now speculate that this account, not the account mentioned above, may be Dzhokhar’s actual Twitter account.

UPDATE (11:50 p.m.): Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was captured earlier tonight. Regarding his academic status, he was a student at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, where he struggled academically, receiving seven failing grades in three semesters.
