Legally Blonde: A Potpourri of Disorderly Conduct Claims

What would Elle Woods have to say about these legally blonde antics?

Legally Blonde is a movie that inspired many a ditzy sorority girl to apply to law school — obviously the appeal of wearing a pink power suit to court was just too great for them to resist. Let’s face it: whether you like it or not, Elle Woods has become an icon of sorts for a generation of women who never realized that they could be smart and pretty at the same time. For that reason (among many others), she was able to make it to the Final Four of our Fictional Lawyer Madness competition.

Is all people see when they look at you blonde hair and big boobs? Then it’s highly likely that you, too, can get into Harvard Law on a whim! What, like it’s hard?

Unfortunately, there are some legal issues that not even women like Elle Woods can talk themselves out of, and we’ve got a potpourri of disorderly conduct allegations for you to feast your eyes upon….

First up, we’ve got a celebrity’s brush with the law. This weekend, Reese Witherspoon, the Oscar-winning actress who played the role of Elle Woods, was arrested on a disorderly conduct charge. It seems that her husband was going to be arrested for alleged drunk driving, and the starlet wouldn’t stand for it. She chose to hang out of the car window instead. Here are some details from CNN:

Witherspoon … is charged with interfering with [Trooper First Class J.] Pyland’s arrest of her husband, Hollywood agent James Toth, on a drunken driving charge.

“Mrs. Witherspoon began to hang out the window and say that she did not believe that I was a real police officer,” Pyland wrote. “I told Mrs. Witherspoon to sit on her butt and be quiet.”

Witherspoon, 37, allegedly did not follow his order, getting out of the Ford Fusion instead. When the trooper warned her again, Witherspoon allegedly told him she was a U.S. citizen and allowed to “stand on American ground.” Her American pride got her handcuffed.

Witherspoon later followed up with a standard variant of the line most people who consider themselves to be important use when confronted by the police: “Do you know my name? You’re about to find out who I am. You are going to be on national news.” For shame, Elle Woods, for shame! If only she had used the foolproof bend-and-snap method, she could have avoided sullying her otherwise pristine record.

The Walk the Line star, who ironically interfered with her husband’s ability to walk the line during his field sobriety test, got her case continued to May 22. Witherspoon later noted in a statement that she “clearly had one drink too many,” and was “deeply embarrassed” — as any Delta Nu should’ve been.

Now, on to a matter that involves a blonde DA who also allegedly had one drink too many….
