Lawyerly Lairs: Everything Is Bigger In Texas (Part 1)

How many houses do you know with 13-car garages?

This home gym is larger than many gyms for entire apartment buildings:

I like this indoor/outdoor living space, open to the air but also featuring a wet bar and fireplace (and another TV; Buzbee has more TVs than Best Buy):

Got land? The house sits on ten acres:

With a swimming pool and a fully lit tennis court:

Our Texas readers are right: you get a lot for your money in the Lone Star State. For $4.75 million, you could buy Tony Buzbee’s former estate — 14,000 square feet of house, on ten acres of land — or you could buy the much smaller Long Island home of Peter Madoff (brother of Bernie), on a mere four acres of property. You’d need to kick in an extra $1.2 million to buy the 4,000-square-foot Manhattan apartment that a Davis Polk partner recently sold to a famous Chinese artist.

But hey, size isn’t everything; location matters too. In a future Lawyerly Lairs column, we’ll visit the home that Buzbee “downsized” to. It has just 12,000 square feet on just an acre of land, but thanks to its more central location, it’s worth about three times as much. Yeehaw!
