Here’s the job listing on Craigslist. It gets right to the point.

Getting a J.D. = $120,000.
Getting admitted = $375.
Getting 30 years of legal experience = Priceless.

I assume this is a typo, but the thing was posted on Friday and still hasn’t been changed. I do love the thought of a person who graduated from law school sometime in the early 80s looking for his next job on Craigslist, but I think it’s highly unlikely.

Then again, I don’t think it’s likely that a person with, say, three years of legal experience is sifting through Craigslist either. Junior people who are lucky enough to have jobs aren’t leaving for new opportunities found on the internet, at least not voluntarily.

Here’s a question: would you really want to hire a person with 30 years of legal experience who wanted to be an associate? I mean, are you looking for George Clooney in Michael Clayton? You realize those people don’t actually exist. The only people with 30 years of legal experience who want to be associates are people who spent the first 25 (to life) of those years honing their skills while not dropping the soap.
