As many of you have no doubt heard, Jay Tabor has announced his intention to withdraw from Weil to join Gibson Dunn. At the same time, Scott Parel has announced his intention to join the group departing to Sidley. We are sorry to see our friends make these personal decisions, but Rodney [L. Moore], Gil[bert Friedlander], Jared [M. Rusman], Ray [Guy] and I all remain committed to Weil and to the practice that we developed here; and which we believe we can continue to develop here with your help. We see tremendous opportunities coming out of these events and plan to meet with you as a group on Monday. In the meantime, nothing has changed, the firm has reiterated its commitment to the Dallas office and its importance to the firm.

Sidley Austin LLP Adds Private Equity/M&A Partner in Dallas
New York — Sidley Austin LLP announced today that S. Scott Parel will join the firm in Dallas as a partner and member of Sidley’s global Private Equity and M&A practices. Mr. Parel is joining eight of his former colleagues from Weil Gotshal & Manges who have recently moved to Sidley, two of whom also are members of the firm’s Private Equity practice.

Mr. Parel has broad corporate and transactional experience. He focuses his practice on complex corporate and transactional matters, representing private and pension fund sponsors and their portfolio companies in connection with leveraged acquisitions, minority investments, divestitures, joint ventures and restructurings. Mr. Parel is also very active in professional development and pro bono activities, and previously served as co-chair of Weil’s Pro Bono and Professional Development committees. He was ranked in Chambers USA 2012 as a leading Corporate/M&A Lawyer in Texas.
