Adventures In Law Firm Holiday Party Invites

Have you ever seen law firm holiday party invitations that are this fabulous and fun?

With Thanksgiving just a few days away, the holiday season is underway. And you know what that means: law firm holiday parties, and all the mischief they entail.

(And also the Above the Law holiday party, sponsored by Superior Discovery and Prestige Legal Search, where any mischief that might occur is off the record. For details and to request an invite, just click here.)

Every holiday party is preceded by an invitation. And this year two prominent law firms are pushing the envelope in this department.

Let’s have a look, shall we?

The first invitation is for the holiday party of the New York office of Susman Godfrey, one of the nation’s most feared litigation firms. I’ve attended this party over the past few years, and it’s a blast. The food, provided by star chef Daniel Boulud, is delicious. The crowd, featuring some of the city’s (and the country’s) top litigators, is lively and fun. And I understand that this year the social interactions will be lubricated with an especially large liquor order.

Would outgoing Mayor Michael Bloomberg — aka Nanny Bloomberg, who wants to regulate everything from soda drinking to cigarette smoking to breastfeeding — approve of such freewheeling indulgence? No. And that’s what Susman Godfrey’s delightfully clever invitation pokes fun at (click to enlarge):

In case you can’t read the smaller print on the inside of the card, it reads (in pertinent part):

Cocktails (150 calories)

Not super-sized, but they never mentioned doubles, did they?

Cuisine by Daniel Boulud (no trans fats, 100 – 750 calories)

This invitation is irresistible. I’m planning to attend; if you’re there too, please find me and say hello. (I look like this.)

Now, on to our next invitation. It’s not as amusing, but it sure brings the bling….
