Congratulations To The 2014 Skadden Fellows

The law firm of Skadden Arps might be a follower when it comes to bonuses, but it’s a leader when it comes to public interest. For example, Skadden was one of the first firms to support Philippine typhoon relief efforts. Over the years, Skadden has given generously to address a variety of humanitarian crises around the world. Its public-spirited nature is one of the reasons Skadden enjoys a perfect score for industry reputation in our Career Center.
Skadden’s most famous contribution to the world of public interest law is surely the Skadden Fellowship program, which has been described as “a legal Peace Corps.” It was established in 1988, in honor of Skadden’s 40th anniversary as a law firm, and it supports graduating law students committed to public interest work as they embark upon specific projects at sponsoring organizations.

Legal AI: 3 Steps Law Firms Should Take Now
From the Skadden Foundation’s press release on the 2014 class of fellows:
Skadden has announced its 2014 class of Skadden Fellows, a group of 28 graduating law students and judicial clerks who are devoting the next two years of their professional careers to public interest work.
The Fellows will work in 11 states and the District of Columbia, focusing on issues ranging from strengthening access to early childhood education for New York preschoolers experiencing homelessness to empowering exploited sheep and cattle herders on Colorado’s Western Slope.
The 2014 class includes a fellowship in memory of our late partner Steven Rothschild, the funds for which were raised by the legal community in Wilmington, Del. To date, the Firm has funded 705 Fellows since the program’s inception in 1988.
For this latest class, Yale scored the most Skadden Fellows, with a total of seven. Harvard, which minted the most fellows last year, came in second, with six. UCLA had two.
