Fridays, In And Out Of Biglaw

Because the phrase "TGIF" is essentially meaningless when working in Biglaw.

Ed. note: Please welcome Above the Law’s new poet-in-residence, Qui Tam. You can read the rest of his law-related poetry over here.

I realize the title of this column may seem a little incongruous given it is not even published on a Friday, but I hope this week’s efforts are nevertheless relevant for many lawyers, for whom TGIF is pretty much meaningless anyway…

Any Given Friday (Part I)

After 75 hours she said
Let’s meet Saturday, not too early (say 10) to see how we are doing.
I nearly cried I admit it,
Baby at home, wife going crazy.
So I drew a line and said 1030.

Any Given Friday (Part II)

Now that I’ve bargained a bit of my soul back from the devil
And gone in-house,
I like to think I’m a pretty good client to my outside counsel,
Thinking always about how much I hated those
Friday missives: “A draft on Monday is fine.”
But let’s face it, when push comes to shove, it ain’t going to be me
Missing storytime with the kids.
I’ve done my time.
