We hate to break it to you, but perpetual bachelor George Clooney is reportedly off the market. We all knew this day would eventually come, but that didn’t stop us from hoping against all hope that it wouldn’t. Clooney’s last love interest was a former professional wrestler, but this time around, he had the good sense to pick a woman who has both beauty and brains. His fiancée is a lawyer, and it’s much harder for us to pray for a marriage measured in Kardashians when you find out about some of her clients and accomplishments.
The lucky lady Clooney popped the question to is the “breathtakingly beautiful and formidably successful” Amal Alamuddin. Let’s find out some more information about her…
We first found out that Clooney’s was dating one of London’s “hottest barristers” back in October 2013, when the Hollywood actor was spotted out and about in London with her. Alamuddin works for Doughty Street Chambers, and her firm profile page is currently offline due to the fact that so many angry women are clicking on it trying to learn more about the woman who stole their otherwise unattainable man.
Thanks to the wonders of the internet, we dug up an earlier version of her firm page (click to enlarge):
As you can see, Alamuddin is an Oxford graduate who then earned her LL.M. from NYU Law School. The international human rights lawyer’s profile goes on to note that she represented WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange during his extradition proceedings, but here’s a fun fact that it neglects to mention: Alamuddin once served as a student law clerk to Sonia Sotomayor while she was still on the Second Circuit.

A source with knowledge of the situation confirms Clooney popped the question and exclusively tells PEOPLE, “George and Amal are trying to keep things very low-key but they also aren’t really trying to hide this, it doesn’t seem. I think it’s like they want the people they love to know that this is real, that they plan on being together forever.”
The engagement happened “not that long ago, I think,” the source adds, and the couple don’t appear to have wedding plans in the works – yet.
The engagement is a boon of positive publicity for Alamuddin’s firm, which sent this message to Reuters: “The barristers and staff of Doughty Street Chambers offer their best wishes and congratulations to Ms. Amal Alamuddin, a member of Chambers, and Mr. George Clooney on their engagement to be married.”
Congrats to happy couple. Here’s hoping we see a save the date video that bests the Boss Wedding.
