Qui Tam: After The Bar Exam

Good luck to everyone taking the bar exam today!

I realize today is the first day of the bar exam for many. Not much else to say at this point except “good luck.”

Whatever you do, take some time afterwards for yourself. If you have a job already lined up, no excuses; even if you don’t, you will still need some no-thinking time.

July 31, Late Afternoon

There was something about a constructive trust,
People panicking they missed it completely.
Something else about felony murder.
I forget.
I was empty, spent, and jonesing
For a cigarette three years after quitting.
I drove south and west out of the 909,
Back to cool ocean breezes,
And eight weeks unencumbered,
The six-figure bet out of my mind.
It felt good to be helpless,
Finally knowing it’s out of your hands,
Sort of like that time with the morphine
After the surgery.
It doesn’t last.
