July 6, Morning

It was like a scene from a movie
I read about but didn’t have time to see,
Something with Johnny Depp
(post-Jack Sparrow so doing whatever the hell he wanted).
Mini liquor bottles strewn all over the floor,
Draft pleadings, papers everywhere,
The smell of uneaten food and
Sweat from clothes worn three days straight.
Checking out, hoping the six hundred dollar mini bar bill
Would go unnoticed beside
The four figure business center bill,
The four figure phone bill.
Three of us, three days of our lives spent,
As big tobacco mercenaries more or less.
The heady mix of resentment and elation
Eclipsed now by exhaustion, and relief.
