Who Represents America’s Biggest Companies? (2014)

What are the top 10 most-mentioned firms?

Corporate Counsel just released its annual list of the law firms that Fortune 500 companies utilize as outside counsel (as noted in Morning Docket). Not surprisingly, the nation’s biggest corporations turn to some of the biggest names in Biglaw for legal services.

But as we noted last year, the most-mentioned firms aren’t necessarily the most prestigious or the most profitable. The rankings prioritize quantity, and they’re dominated by firms that excel in a particular practice area. See if you can guess which one….

Here are the top ten firms with the most mentions on Corporate Counsel’s list of “Who Represents America’s Biggest Companies”:

1. Ogletree Deakins: 134 mentions
2. Littler Mendelson: 110 mentions
3. Jackson Lewis: 84 mentions
4. Morgan Lewis: 79 mentions
5. Seyfarth Shaw: 73 mentions
6. Reed Smith: 47 mentions
7. Wilson Elser: 47 mentions
8. Gibson Dunn: 42 mentions
9. Bryan Cave: 39 mentions
10. Greenberg Traurig: 39 mentions

The top five firms are exactly the same as last year. Note the dominance of firms with strong practices in labor and employment.

You can check out the full rankings here, along with the most mentioned firms in several specific practice areas: contracts, torts, IP, labor and employment, labor litigation, and securities. What jumps out at you or surprises you? Feel free to email us or post in the comments.
