Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day!

Today we honor the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. -- and 2015 marks the 50th anniversary of the Selma marches and the Voting Rights Act, so it's especially meaningful this year.

Today we mark the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the late, great civil rights leader. Dr. King’s birthday actually falls on January 15, but the federal holiday is observed on the third Monday of January.

The holiday holds special resonance this year, since 2015 marks the 50th anniversary of both the Selma marches and the Voting Rights Act. In honor of the holiday, today we won’t be publishing much, if anything (other than Morning Docket). Feel free to scroll back through the archives and read stories you might have missed from last week.

If you’re looking for something to do, you can use today for public service. Perhaps take time to work on one of your pro bono cases, or look up service projects in your area at MLKDay.gov (although the website seems to be having issues right now). If you are looking for entertainment, consider checking out Selma, the critically acclaimed and Oscar-nominated (but also Oscar-snubbed) film about the life and death of Dr. King. (Please note, however, that the movie is not a documentary and has taken some controversial liberties with the historical record.)
