Horrific news, as associate identified as victim in brutal stabbing.

UPDATE: Additional developments in this story available here.

Horrific breaking news from D.C.: a man found fatally stabbed yesterday morning has been identified and appears to be a 30-year-old DLA Piper associate, David Messerschmitt.

The man found stabbed to death on Tuesday in a downtown Washington hotel on Thomas Circle has been identified as a 30-year-old who lives in Capitol Hill, according to D.C. police.

David Messerschmitt, who lives in an apartment building in the 400 block of East Capitol Street NE, three blocks south of Stanton Park, was pronounced dead in a fourth floor hotel room of the Donovan. It is a boutique hotel in the 1100 block of 14th Street Northwest, where rooms cost upward of $300 a night.

Police said they were called to the room about 11 a.m. on Tuesday and found the victim dead and suffering from multiple stab wounds. No other details have been released.

David Messerschmitt, until recently, appeared on DLA Piper’s website as an associate. DLA Piper removed his profile page from its website, suggesting its associate and the victim are one in the same. A cached version of his DLA Piper profile page can be found here.

Our thoughts are with his family.
