Washington State Has Too Much Pot

Changing laws can have unintended consequences.

In the early days, we were able to get, like, $1,700 to $2,200 a pound, wholesale. Now it’s like $700, $800 a pound. That’s not profitable at all. I’ve got most of my stuff stashed away for later.

Tom Lauerman of Farmer Tom’s Organics, describing the pot glut afflicting farmers in the now legal — at least from the state’s perspective — Washington market. Apparently, marijuana is growing like a, well, a weed up there. Overeager entrepreneurs rushed in hoping to corner the market and only ended up pricing themselves out of it. Just goes to show you the unintended consequences of changing laws.
