Barack Obama To Teach Law School Classes After Presidency?

Which law school could be flooded with paparazzi and Secret Service agents thanks to this statesman’s presence, and what subject will he be teaching?

This just in: Barack Obama, a Harvard-educated lawyer whose most recent résumé line lists the position of President of the United States, may be in talks to teach at a New York law school at the end of his second term in January 2017.

Which law school will likely be flooded with paparazzi and Secret Service agents thanks to this statesman’s presence, and what subject will he be teaching?

If all goes according to rumored plans, Obama will teach constitutional law at Columbia Law School as soon as his time is up in the White House. Perhaps he’ll be able to have a nice sit-down with Professor Amal Clooney in the faculty lounge — if she’s still teaching there — to discuss the costs and consequences of drone warfare on human rights.

Obama has good reason to make the move to Columbia — after all, it’s his undergraduate alma mater. Here’s more information from Page Six of the New York Post:

A source told us: “President Obama is considering his next move after leaving the White House. It is clear that he is giving thought to his work with his foundation, the creation of his presidential library, and how he could continue to work in an influential role. There has been talk about him teaching at Columbia Law School, but nothing has been confirmed.”

A spokeswoman for Columbia Law School . . . declined to comment, and the White House didn’t get back to us.

Columbia has already offered up space to house Obama’s presidential library, so it makes sense that the school would offer Obama a slot on its faculty roster at the same time. If this turns out to be true, then congrats to Professor Barack Obama on his new teaching gig.

Barack Obama is a firm believer in shortening the length of law programs, and Columbia Law will be a great place to launch a test study on doing away with law school’s third year.
