Justice Scalia Makes Completely Tone-Deaf Joke During Gay Marriage Arguments

Laugh it up, Scalia. Your joke wasn't inappropriate at all.

It was rather refreshing, actually.

— Justice Antonin Scalia, in an attempt to make a joke on the record about a protestor who interrupted yesterday’s oral arguments in Obergefell v. Hodges to scream at Mary Bonauto, a lawyer challenging several same-sex marriage bans, at the conclusion of her argument.

(In case you’re wondering, the protestor yelled, “If you support gay marriage, you will burn in Hell! It’s an abomination!”)

UPDATE (4/30/2015): Was Justice Scalia’s joke really that offensive? David Lat comes to Justice Scalia’s defense.
