George Zimmerman Injured In Florida Shooting Incident

The man who killed Trayvon Martin was injured in an altercation this afternoon.

Police in Lake Mary, Florida say that George Zimmerman, who walked in the killing of Trayvon Martin, has suffered a minor gunshot wound in what appears to be a road rage incident. Unsurprisingly, this isn’t the first time Zimmerman has been at the heart of a road rage incident, having threatened to kill a guy over in a traffic altercation last year according to police.

Perhaps waving your gun around to intimidate people loses its luster when they have a gun, too.

UPDATE (4:31 p.m.): While police claim he was shot, his lawyer is saying Zimmerman wasn’t shot. The lawyer — not identified by the new report — claims Zimmerman was instead “hit with shards of glass from his vehicle’s windshield” in the apparent road rage incident. That said, the lede remains that George Zimmerman got shot at today and was ultimately injured, whether the bullet caused his minor injuries directly or indirectly.

The new report also provides this gem:

The man who called 911 to report the shooting told CNN that the alleged gunman ran up to him and said, “I just shot George Zimmerman, call 911!” According to CNN executive editor Ram Ramgopal, the alleged gunman claimed he was driving when Zimmerman waved a gun, so he shot Zimmerman.

So, to reiterate the basic truism: Perhaps waving your gun around to intimidate people loses its luster when they have a gun, too.
