Beastie Boys Get The Gold Standard Of Legal Representation

If your law firm has to be compared to a car, a Cadillac Escalade isn't a bad way to go.

[T]he Court’s review of Sheppard Mullin’s bills suggests that the Beastie Boys opted to pay for, and received, the Cadillac Escalade, not the Honda Civic.

–U.S. District Judge Paul Engelmayer. The Beastie Boys may have won their legal battle against Monster Energy Drinks for their unauthorized used of Beastie Boys music in a promotional video, but they didn’t get everything on their wish list. Judge Engelmayer ruled Monster would not be paying the full $2.4 million Sheppard Mullin bill; instead the award was knocked down to the “compact” rate of $668,000. Judge Engelmayer found the band would still come out more than $532,000 above its reasonable costs.
