Behind The Scenes Look At Seminal Legal Moment As Captured By HBO

Remember when a Supreme Court confirmation hearing captured the nation’s attention and sparked a conversation about sexual harassment in the workplace? No? You’re too young? Yeah… me too. But I feel confident that way back in 1991 it actually happened.

Of course I’m talking about the confirmation hearing of Clarence Thomas. Though he was eventually confirmed as a Supreme Court Justice (not that he does much talking in that role), the hearings were dominated by the testimony of Anita Hill. She alleged that as her boss at both the Department of Education and the EEOC (irony alert), Thomas subjected her to unwanted sexual advances, crude jokes, and other forms of harassment.

As we’ve mentioned previously, HBO is making a movie out of this little slice of American history, starring Kerry Washington (also serving as executive producer) as Anita Hill and Wendell Pierce as Clarence Thomas. Now Washington has shared, via Instagram, the first look at her portrayal of the indomitable Anita Hill. Note the 90’s double breasted blazer in full effect.

I wonder if HBO’s version will cover that awkward time Ginni Thomas (Clarence’s wife) tried to make Anita Hill apologize…
