Justice Scalia Has Horrible Motel Experience

The travel gods must be frowning on Justice Scalia.

[M]otels provide an obvious haven for those who trade in human misery.

–Justice Antonin Scalia’s dissent in the recently decided City of Los Angeles v. Patel. The majority held the Fourth Amendment invalidated a local ordinance which required hotels to provide information to law enforcement. Justice Scalia’s perspective on the lodging industry as a “particularly attractive site for criminal activity” obviously played a role in his dissent (he was joined by Chief Justice Roberts and Justice Thomas). Hope he left a strongly worded Yelp review for whatever hotel experience left him with such a bad taste in his mouth.
