The 2016 ATL Power 100: Help Us Rank Biglaw Firms

Highlights from the ATL Law Firm Survey: Let us know what you think of your employer and peer firms.

The ATL Power 100 law firm rankings are our attempt to capture the strength and relevance of major law firms in today’s market: Who are the market leaders? Which firms are still making and retaining their partners? Where do you want to work? “Power,” in this market, is about what firms are, not a legacy of past glories.

The Power 100 blends objective data with subjective feedback from over 20,000 law firm associates and partners. The result is a holistic picture of each firm, encompassing employee satisfaction, compensation, reputation, desirability as an employer, and data-driven measures of firm growth. The Power 100 offers a novel perspective on how Biglaw firms stack up against their competitors.

Here are some highlights from last year’s rankings:

No. 1 Overall Firm: Wachtell
Strength and quality of practice: Wachtell
Most satisfied with compensation: Wachtell
Desirability as a potential employer: K&L Gates
Most-satisfied associates and partners: Cooley
Leverage (Ratio of equity partners to all other attorneys; firms were rewarded for low leverage): Dentons
Highest growth rate: Dentons
Highest percentage of women partners: Littler Mendelson
Best chances to make “home-grown” partner: Davis Wright Tremaine

We release our 2016 Power 100 later this year. In the meantime, we will continue to collect responses to our (very brief, completely confidential) Law Firm Survey. Data from the survey helps determine the outcome of the Power 100. Please share your insights and perspective on your own employer — as well as your peer firms — here.
