What Was The Best Biglaw Summer Associate Event Of 2015?

We look forward to your nominations!

Earlier this month, Sara Randazzo of the Wall Street Journal surveyed the landscape of summer associate programs. She described for the WSJ readership the cushy life of summer associates — getting paid $3,000 a week to have fun, basically.

She chronicled Cooley’s three-day retreat in the Bay Area, Wilson Sonsini’s weekend of hiking and biking in Monterey, Chadbourne & Parke’s trip to a Dave Matthews concert, and this fun event at Cozen O’Connor:

One week, some of the law students went to an event called Escape the Room, which gives participants an hour to get out of a locked space by finding and solving hidden clues. “Everyone’s worst nightmare in real life—you’re stuck at work and can’t leave,” the company says in its advertisements.

Who says being a summer associate isn’t a realistic Biglaw experience?

A tipster recently shared with us some video footage from their firm’s farewell evening (posted below). It consisted of a cocktail party at the firm, karaoke at a bar, drinking and dancing at a club (where the video was taken, around 2:30 a.m.), and burritos. Eating burritos at 4 a.m.? Again, who says being a summer isn’t like Biglaw?

If firms are bidding bye-bye to their summers, you know what that means: time for Above the Law’s annual summer associate event contest. Now that Biglaw is back, we’re expecting some stories of serious extravagance here. You know things are out of control when John Quinn, founding partner of super-profitable Quinn Emanuel, radically scales back his firm’s summer program because it’s “very expensive” (plus a whole host of other sound reasons).

So which law firm put on the best summer associate event of 2015? Please send your nominations to us by email or by text message (646-820-8477). We keep our tipsters anonymous. We’ll collect the best entries, let you vote on them in a reader poll, and then crown the best summer associate event of 2015. We look forward to reading all of your submissions!
