You Won't Believe Why This Biglaw Partner Was Arrested

Sometimes the passion and energy that make a great lawyer can bite you in the ass -- sometimes it can get you arrested.

Great lawyers are often noted for their passion, take for example Atticus Finch (yes, Joe’s feelings on the subject are noted). But sometimes that passion and energy can bite you in the ass — sometimes it can get you arrested.

Greenberg Traurig partner Victoria Davis Lockard, formerly of Alston & Bird, was arrested July 1 after what police are terming a road rage incident.

And the allegations (as reported by Atlanta Journal-Constitution) are juicy:

Maura Gerke, 21, said she was leaving her job at the Terminus building in Buckhead when she honked her horn at a white Jaguar that she believed was not turning fast enough, according to a police report.

The Jaguar driver then trailed her 1997 Ford down Piedmont Road to Roswell Road.

“She stated that the female driving the Jaguar then pulled up beside her and began honking at her near the intersection of Piedmont-Roswell,” Officer Stoddard wrote in his report. “Maura Gerke told me that she flicked off the driver… (who) then threw an object at her which struck her window shattering it. Maura Gerke began to cry and shake as she told me what happened.”

Gerke had shards of glass that appeared to be from the mug and a tag number of the 2011 Jaguar, which belonged to Lockard. She later rode with an officer to identify Lockard, who was questioned by police at her home.

If getting honked at is enough for you to stalk a young driver that you are (probably) doubling up in age, and when the kid flips you off you retaliate by throwing a coffee mug and shattering the other car’s window… maybe you should try some of this mindfulness stuff I keep hearing about.

We reached out to Greenberg Traurig for comment. The firm said, “This is a personal matter that is being handled by Ms. Lockard and her lawyer.”
