Biglaw Partner Found Dead After Police Search

Your desk is about to be overcome by an avalanche of paperwork. There are stacks of files piled up in every corner of your office. You haven’t been able to find the time to eat lunch in days. You haven’t been sleeping well. All you can think about is billing. As members of the legal profession and in the rush of work, it’s very easy to forget about one of the most important things in your lives: taking care of yourselves.

Earlier this week, a partner at a large law firm died because he was likely taking care of everything but himself. Unfortunate things like this happen far too often in the law.

On Monday morning, police in Overland Park, Kansas, issued a missing/endangered adult alert for Patrick J. Henderson, 51, a partner at Polsinelli’s Kansas City office. Henderson was a known diabetic and left his home on foot during what may have been a medical emergency that caused him to become “disoriented and confused,” according to police.

Henderson was found dead later that day in a wooded area close to his home. An autopsy was conducted yesterday to find his cause of death. At this time, no foul play is suspected.

Henderson was a graduate of the University of Kansas School of Law who previously worked as a partner at Shook Hardy & Bacon and Bryan Cave. From KCTV 5:

On Monday night, Polsinelli Chairman Russ Welsh issued the following statement on Henderson’s death.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Patrick, an excellent attorney, respected colleague, and friend. He was an advocate for our clients and will be missed at the firm. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.”
