Law school graduate debt spirals upward.

Currently, there are nearly two million Americans who owe at least $100,000 in student debt, a more than fivefold increase over the last decade. As detailed in the Wall Street Journal this week, the surge has been driven by graduate student debt.

Law school graduates in particular are making an outsized contribution to this debt growth. In 2012, the typical newly minted J.D. left law school having accrued $140,616 in debt. This figure has increased a staggering 59% compared to eight years earlier:
