This Awful Courtroom Sketch Of Tom Brady's Face Melting Off Will Make Your Day

How could anyone in the courtroom concentrate while the star quarterback's face was melting off?

Yesterday, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady spent the day in federal court for a hearing on his seemingly futile appeal of a four-game suspension thanks to his involvement in the Deflategate scandal. Judge Richard M. Berman seemed “skeptical,” and was eager to get the parties into his chambers to discuss settlement privately.

After all, how could anyone in the courtroom concentrate while the star quarterback’s face was melting off?

Of course, Tom Brady’s face wasn’t actually melting off, but a courtroom sketch drawn by Jane Rosenberg certainly made it look that way. For God’s sake, the man’s face appeared to be softer than how he likes his balls. Here’s Rosenberg’s drawing, in all of its glory:

Needless to say, the internet had a field day with Rosenberg’s depiction of Brady.

Rosenberg has been a sketch artist for 35 years, and has drawn many public figures and celebrities over the course of her career. This is the first time something like this has ever happened. The New York Times interviewed her regarding her newfound notoriety:

Ms. Rosenberg said drawing celebrities is her most difficult task, as people already have an image of how the person is supposed to look. She was hired by several media clients to attend Brady’s hearing, and was “under a lot of pressure to work very quickly and do the best I can on the short deadline I’m on.”

“I’m getting bad criticism that I made him look like Lurch,” she said, referring to the Addams Family character. “And obviously I apologize to Tom Brady for not making him as good-looking as he is.”

There’s no need to apologize or put on a Tom Brady pout, Jane. Take a look at the sheer awesomeness that was inspired by your work and you’ll feel better, we promise.

If only all courtroom sketches were drawn this poorly, the legal world would be a lot more entertaining. On behalf of the internet, thanks to Jane Rosenberg for being a good sport.
