An Embarrassing Typo... In The Bluebook?

Is it just us, or have the editors of The Bluebook been getting sloppier with each edition that's printed?

The Bluebook — a holy relic to be slavishly worshipped by law school gunners and law review staff members — used to be the most prestigious of all legal citation guides, but something seems to be amiss.

Is it just us, or have the editors of The Bluebook (affiliate link) been getting sloppier with each edition that’s printed?

Lately, with new citation rules and distinctions come new Bluebooking errors within The Bluebook itself. Things like this can be very distressing for law nerds.

We just received word about yet another error within The Bluebook — this time, it’s a typo:

The law student who discovered the error immediately emailed the editor of the once revered citation guide, closing his plea for a correction with a rather snarky message:

I believe there is a typo in the 2015 version of The Bluebook:

p. 114, paragraph 3: “The document number assigned by the court, such as that found on PACER for federal cases, may also be included, but…”

Typo: There should be a space between the comma and “but” in the sentence above.

TAKE THAT, BLUEBOOK.

THANK YOU FOR WASTING HOURS OF MY LIFE.

Almost two weeks later, a Bluebook editor responded: “Thank you for your email. We will fix this typo in the next printing.” Ugh. So much for this being a sacred text for gunners.
