Man Finds Practicing Law (Without A License) Isn't All It's Cracked Up To Be

Would you trust this man's legal advice? You probably shouldn't.

Would you trust this man’s legal advice? Turns out — weirdly hypnotic eyes to the side — you shouldn’t. Because he isn’t a lawyer, mind you, he’s had a law practice for more than a dozen years, he just isn’t licensed to actually engage in said practice.

The man in question, Leaford George Cameron, first got noticed in 2013 when he got arrested for… yup, impersonating an attorney. Even back then he earned the… admiration of local media at the Philadelphia Daily News:

He came to be known to us simply as “Scary man” – those eyes! – but we admired his response when detectives asked whether he was licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania.

“His reply was that he should be,” according to the criminal complaint from 2013.

Looks like Cameron has the chutzpah to be a real lawyer… and the dedication too. See, he didn’t actually stop being a fake lawyer, at least according to the indictment:

U.S. Attorney Zane Memeger announced that Cameron, 62, of Burlington, N.J., has been indicted for mail fraud, wire fraud, and false statements. Cameron allegedly ran a fraudulent law practice between 2003 and this year and defrauded approximately 74 “clients” who were residents of Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Jamaica, and India.

At least Cameron seems to have found a clever way around being saddled with a lifetime of educational debt? Of course, he now faces 75 years in jail, so maybe, just this once, Sallie Mae is really the lesser of two evils.
