Stats Of The Week: Law Firm Love For Hillary

Law firms are lining up behind Hillary, according to the latest FEC data.

No matter how many lawyer jokes Hillary cracks, she can count on the legal profession’s support in her quest for the White House. The most recent F.E.C. data on campaign contributions for the 2016 election cycle reveal a striking number of law firms among HRC’s top contributors. On the GOP side, not so much.

According to data aggregated by the Center For Responsive Politics, eight law firms are among Hillary’s top 20 donors. Number one on the list is the Florida personal injury firm Morgan & Morgan, whose attorneys have ponied up $277,326 (as of October 16th).

The others are all Biglaw mainstays:

  • DLA Piper (#5 on the list; $171,200)
  • Sullivan & Cromwell (#6; $156,350)
  • Akin Gump (#7; $133,756)
  • Latham & Watkins (#14; $99,030)
  • Munger Tolles (#17; $94,900)
  • Steptoe & Johnson (#19; $89,343)
  • Skadden (#20; $81,962)

Among the three top-polling Republican candidates:

Trump: zero law firms among top 20 donors
Carson: zero
Rubio: Wiley Rein (#16; $17,100)

The general direction of this trend is not surprising, but its sheer lopsidedness might be.
