— Chief Judge John Roberts, offering comments on one of his predecessors, Chief Justice Charles Evans Hughes, a man who once served as New York’s governor, an associate SCOTUS justice, a Republican nominee for president, secretary of state, and a Wall Street lawyer, during part of a series entitled “Nominated From New York: The Empire State’s Contributions to the Supreme Court Bench,” which was held at New York University School of Law and sponsored by the Historical Society of the New York Courts and the Supreme Court Historical Society.
