A Lawyer Tries To Ruin The Happiest Place On Earth

This is the lawyer making Mickey Mouse sad.

I’m an avowed Disney fan. Yes, I am a grown-ass adult and willingly take my vacation at Disney World… because it’s awesome. It annoys me when people there cut in line, litter, or do anything to disrupt the magical experience that is Disney World. So you can imagine the ire that Florida attorney Andrew Gerson has roused in me: he allegedly tried to bring a handgun into the Magic Kingdom, which, in addition to obviously being against Disney’s own park rules, was also against the actual law as his concealed-carry license expired in 2005.

As if just trying to bring a gun into Disney World wasn’t strange enough, Gerson’s reaction when confronted was just bizarre. As the Orlando Sentinel reports:

A security guard checking bags at an entrance to the Magic Kingdom on Dec. 4 noticed a strange bulge in Gerson’s pants, records show.

She asked Gerson if there was anything in his pants. He didn’t respond at first, then said it was his anatomy, records show.

This seems pretty peculiar all the way around. As the Southern Florida Lawyers blog points out, “According to the story, he said it was his anatomy? What — a herniated disc? — I’m not following.” Or perhaps he was carrying the gun in his waistband in the front, which is an even worse idea — just ask Plaxico Burress.

But the madness didn’t stop till after guns were drawn:

As the security guard turned to ask a male co-worker to speak with Gerson, Gerson walked away from her. She called an Orange County deputy and said she worried he was trying to bring a gun into the park.

The deputy followed Gerson for about 100 yards. Gerson turned to make eye contact with the deputy, then pulled out his cellphone and started running away, records show.

The deputy pulled out his gun and chased Gerson, yelling at him to stop, records show.

Moments later, Gerson stopped. The deputy asked him if he had a gun, and he said that he did.

Gerson got on his knees, and the deputy arrested him and confiscated the gun.

Ugh, to think that memory will overshadow some 6-year-old’s first meeting with Mickey Mouse. For shame. Gerson is facing a charge of illegally carrying a concealed firearm, and has been released on $2,500 bail. But he has already gotten a huge punishment for his actions — he’s been banned from Disney property.
