Associate Bonus Watch: Small Firm, HUGE Bonuses!

Wow! Everyone at this firm got market bonuses, on top of their six-figure spring bonuses.

In 2013, we wrote about Matthew Powers, a top IP litigator who left Weil Gotshal in 2011 to start his own firm, Tensegrity Law Group. At the time, industry observers were wondering how his new venture was doing. While some speculated that he’d been “hobbled” by his departure from Weil, Powers countered that his firm was “logging profits per partner and revenue per lawyer well above Biglaw levels.”

Two more years have gone by, and judging by Tensegrity’s intense bonuses, it seems more than evident that Powers was telling the truth about his firm’s profitability.

The firm will pay its associates Cravath-scale bonuses, on top of the $100,000 bonuses that associates across all class years received this past spring. Spring bonuses may be a thing of the past in Biglaw, but at Tensegrity, they’re large and in charge. Needless to say, all of Tensegrity’s associates are thrilled that they’ll be able to roll around in money thanks to their firm’s generosity. Here’s the memo they received earlier this week:

Congratulations to everyone at Tensegrity Law Group. While we’re not quite sure how it could even be possible, may your bonuses be even bigger and better in 2016!
