How To Go From Law School To A Career In Media: A Conversation With HuffPo's Graham Nelson

Are you looking to leave Biglaw? Read this.

During my quick stint in Biglaw, the holidays were always tough. I sat in my half of the office late on Christmas Eve asking myself a question many lawyers ask themselves: how did I end up here? I’m not interested in M&A or even law for that matter. Although I’ve come to realize that many lawyers are, in fact, quite happy in Biglaw, others would prefer careers in non-law-specific industries. I’m always interested to meet people who have been able to transition from law and leverage their background for something different.

Recently, at a conference in Tel Aviv, I had an opportunity to hear a presentation from Graham Nelson, who is the Director of Content Strategy, News and Men’s Lifestyle at The Huffington Post. But while most people were interested in Graham’s insights on sponsored content, I noted that Graham graduated from law school around the same time I did (he in 2009, I in 2010) and here he was already moving up the ranks of a big media company. After he spoke, I accosted stalked approached Graham and told him I’d love to host him on ATL and hear how he made the transition from law to content.
