John Oliver Is The Criminal Justice Hero We Need

John Oliver gets recognized for his criminal justice work.

Good news, fellow John Oliver fans! It seems our favorite celeb is getting the recognition his hard-hitting reports deserve (and not just from the Ninth Circuit).

The tell-it-like-it-is host has been nominated by The Crime Report for the Criminal Justice Newsmaker of the Year. He has, of course, tackled a wide range of justice-related issues, including voter disenfranchisement, patent trolls, elected judges, and mandatory minimums. But perhaps the most relevant to the question of criminal justice is his take on U.S. prisons, as he reminds us that America has more people in prison than China:

Oliver is the only television personality nominated (better luck next year, Trevor Noah). Other nominees include President Obama, Eric Holder, and Milwaukee DA John Chisholm. Even though he’s up against a few legal heavyweights, I’m still pulling for my man John Oliver.

It’s a long wait until he comes back in February.
