Almost everyone has a drink or two during the Super Bowl, but most are wise enough not to get behind the wheel of a car after doing so. For those who did decide to drive after drinking, the police were out in force to make the arrests necessary to keep our streets safe.

As it turns out, one of the people who was arrested this weekend on the suspicion of allegedly driving while intoxicated was a prosecutor who found herself on the wrong side of the law.

Erika A. Hansen is an Assistant District Attorney with the Travis County District Attorney’s Office in Texas. She’s a 2007 graduate of the University of Texas at Austin School of Law, and has been in her current position handling felony domestic violence cases for slightly less than a year. FOX 7 Austin has additional details on her arrest:

According to court paperwork, Hansen crashed her Hyundai sedan into a parked car on the 1200 block of E. 7th St. just before 1 A.M.

According to police, a witness told them Hansen was revving the engine and appeared to try leaving the scene. When police arrived, they found Hansen sitting in the driver’s seat with the engine still on.

Police said Hansen told them she had drank two pints of beer from 9 P.M. to 11 P.M. and was traveling between 25 and 35 M.P.H. when she became distracted and then struck the car.

Hansen allegedly failed a sobriety test, and had a .19 blood-alcohol level. According to the Austin American-Statesman, she was booked into jail at 3:23 a.m., and wasn’t released until 4:12 p.m. on a personal recognizance bond of $3,000.

First Assistant District Attorney John Neal says that Hansen hasn’t been placed on leave because “[i]t’s early on and we’ll wait until we know more about this.” In this case, it’s worth noting that in 2013, Hansen’s boss, District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg, was on the receiving end of a rather lengthy jail sentence for a DWI as a first-time offender.

Perhaps Erika Hansen will get some leniency for her alleged misconduct, if only because the DA she works for knows what it’s like to be in such a rough spot.
