Double Your Justice With Identical Twin Judges

Judging runs in the family with these identical twins working at the same courthouse.

Of all the nouns we’re supposed to experience when we choose to shove a dusty stick of Wrigley’s gum in our feed hole, “professional success and an enduring commitment to upholding the law” never made it into any of the commercials. But somehow Chris Brown did. So… make of that what you will.

But if Doublemint wanted to get back on track with some more positive tales of twin power, it could consider a new commercial featuring a duo of identical twin judges in Alabama. Judge Shanta Owens performed a professional duty and a personal pleasure swearing in her twin sister Shera Grant to join her as a district court judge in Jefferson County. Judge Owens has sat on the bench since 2008, while newly-minted Judge Grant received an appointment from Governor Robert Bentley to fill an open seat. Judge Grant is hoping to win her seat outright in November — if she can survive the March Democratic primary first.

As far as anyone can recall, twins have never served together in the Jefferson County courthouse. Kind of a dumb qualifier since twin judges are already rare enough. The highest-profile twin jurists today are Second Circuit Chief Judge Robert Katzmann and Massachusetts Appeals Court Justice Gary Katzmann, and they’re obviously not on the same court.

There you go, Wrigley’s! A flashy new ad with the Owens/Grant twins and the Katzmann boys.
