Female Attorneys Continue To Be Held Back By Gender Stereotypes

How can we stop gender bias in the legal profession?

sad woman lawyerOur young female lawyers need to know that there is a place for them at the top of our profession and that they do not need to choose between family and career. Change will not take place through rhetoric alone but by making systemic changes to the way we work and the culture we create.

— Florida Bar President and Sedgwick partner Ray Abadin, commenting on the largely depressing results of the recently released 2015 Florida Bar Young Leaders Division Survey on Women in the Legal Profession. More than 400 young female lawyers responded to the Survey, and 43 percent indicated they’d experienced gender bias during their careers, while 42 percent cited difficulties in balancing work/life responsibilities.
