President Vetting Republican For SCOTUS -- Obama Officially Overthinking This

President Obama reportedly considering Gov. Brian Sandoval for Scalia's SCOTUS seat, strokes white cat while sipping sherry.

Brian_Sandoval_2010UPDATE: Sandoval has withdrawn from consideration. Which probably works out well for Obama anyway.

Look, Barry. May I call you Barry? Very well. Look, Mr. President, we all understand that the powers-that-be of the Senate Judiciary Committee have officially informed you they won’t do anything until 2017. And we all appreciate your reputation for being the “three-dimensional chess” guy in any room. So the temptation to try to outsmart the Republicans at their own game is probably weighing on you pretty heavily.

But this is pretty stupid.

Reports indicate that President Obama is considering Governor Brian Sandoval, a popular, centrist Republican who served as a federal district judge for four years. Would the Senate Republicans really ding one of their party’s stars in a pissing contest with Obama? Does this secure the Nevada Senate seat for the Democrats by removing the only credible Republican candidate? Could he secure a centrist and leave the upcoming three (or more) vacancies to Hillary? Has he been watching too many old seasons of The West Wing? Is Harry Reid the one filling his head with this nonsense (if true)?

The answers are: probably, not really, no, no — there’s no such thing, and OBVIOUSLY. Wile E. Coyote has better thought out schemes than this.

In any event, that’s the news right now. Clearly this is still in the “vetting” stage, but it’s been leaked, which means someone wants us to know Sandoval is in the mix.

For everyone else, I leave you with the words of the Washington Post’s Philip Bump:
