At Which Firms Are Women Thriving? Findings From The ATL Law Firm Gender Diversity Index

Findings and analysis from the ATL Law Firm Gender Diversity Index.

ATL-Gender-Index-Badge-300x300Law firms blow a lot of rhetorical hot air affirming their commitment to achieving gender diversity in the workplace. Yet, despite some isolated efforts to hire and retain more female attorneys and promote more women into partnership, little tangible progress has been made to improve the position of women in the profession. Prior to our publication of The Law Firm Gender Diversity Index, information on diversity efforts had been largely anecdotal. The Index, created by NavForward in partnership with ATL — and sponsored by Bloomberg Law — is the first study to ever collect and analyze raw data on gender diversity in the legal market. The Index categorizes every lawyer in the largest 1,200 firms in the country and is the most comprehensive and accurate database of its kind available anywhere.

Today, we make available for free download a white paper with findings from and analysis of the NavForward data. How do diversity statistics vary across markets and practice areas? What is the correlation between recruitment of female attorneys and their promotion? Which firms are demonstrating that it is possible for law firms to maintain a highly demanding work environment where women not only belong, but thrive? Download the white paper here.
