Chicago Firm Bumps Salaries In Multiple Offices

Raises for associates in many different parts of the country.

Cash Flow With ComputerThere’s a delicate balancing act when it comes to releasing news about raises. Releasing the news on a Friday night may keep all that distracting partying off of company time, but you’ve also just guaranteed that your associates spent the whole week refreshing Above the Law instead of doing their jobs. It’s a tough call.

One firm that opted for the Friday route and raised salaries in the waning hours of last week was Chicago staple Chapman and Cutler. Our tipster didn’t provide a full memo, so we can’t report on the fallout for senior associates, but we’re hearing that the firm at least made good for the younger folks, with the Chicago, New York, Washington, and San Francisco offices all moving to $180K. Those associates in the firm’s Salt Lake City office will be paid on a scale starting at $130K.

With each passing announcement, eyes turn increasingly to the firms that haven’t yet joined the pack and we start asking… what’s wrong?

In the meantime, congratulations to Chapman and Cutler associates.

Remember, when your firm matches, please text us (646-820-8477) or email us (subject line: “[Firm Name] Matches Cravath”). Please include the memo if available. You can take a photo of the memo and send it via text or email if you don’t want to forward the original PDF or Word file.
