Monday Night Money Party: Another Firm Announces Salary Hikes

Who'd have thought that Monday night would be such a busy time for associate salary news?

In the MoneyWho’d have thought that Monday night would be such a busy time for associate salary news? Since 5:00 p.m. eastern Above the Law has received tips that 10(!) Biglaw firms have notified associates their base compensation will be increasing effective July 1.

The latest to join the party is Houston-based firm Bracewell. They are increasing salaries to the full Cravath scale, which gives all associates a pay raise of between $20,000 and $35,000, depending on class year, as set forth in the memo below. The class of 2016 and summer associates can also expect a bigger payday.

BracewellReaction to the news has been very positive from the rank and file associates on the ground:

Early word is that associates are really pleased, especially in smaller markets like Seattle/San Antonio / Dallas. The firm had a down year last year (though it’s been a very busy 2016) so it’s great to see that they are still being generous to associates.

We are covering this story as market conditions develop, so please drop us a line — text (646-820-8477) or email (subject line: “[Firm Name] Matches Cravath”) — when you know of another firm making a compensation move. Please include the memo if available. You can take a photo of the memo and send it via text or email if you don’t want to forward the original PDF or Word file.
