Nothin' Says Lovin' Like $180K In Your Paycheck

After making a lot of attorneys mad, this firm's finally coughed up the cash.

Portrait of woman baker standing in bakeryAs the title suggests, the Doughboys and girls over at Pillsbury have matched the Cravath scale. From what we’ve heard there’s no memo (UPDATE: There is a memo… and it’s here), but they’ve agreed to match the Cravath scale across all of their U.S. offices. UPDATE: The top end of the scale is $315K.

And Pillsbury has a LOT of domestic offices. In addition to the obvious locales like New York and D.C., the firm has offices in Los Angeles, Austin, Houston, Nashville, Northern Virginia, Sacramento, San Diego (two offices), San Francisco, and Silicon Valley. The firm also has a Palm Beach office, but does not appear to have any associates there.

Pillsbury just missed the cut of our last “irate associates” post, announcing their raises less than 2 minutes before the post was slated to go public. To let the firm in on exactly how testy its associates had been before this announcement, let’s share what they were thinking:

If I were one of our T14 summer associates I would seriously be looking at 3L OCI options. Management seems to be waiting for literally every other AmLaw firm to raise first. This strategy is just postponing the inevitable, unless the firm is in dire straits or they don’t value their associates, in which case they should tell us that too. I don’t think they realize how much the delay is hurting associate morale.

This was followed a couple days later with:

Guys, seriously. This is getting ridiculous.

Well, don’t worry Pillsbury lawyers, the salary situation is not a reason to worry about the firm.

Now, the constant merry-go-round off proposed mergers that inevitably end in nothing except the occasional in a cynical pillaging… that’s something you may want to worry about.

UPDATE: Memo available on the next page…

Remember, when your firm matches, please text us (646-820-8477) or email us (subject line: “[Firm Name] Matches Cravath”). Please include the memo if available. You can take a photo of the memo and send it via text or email if you don’t want to forward the original PDF or Word file.
